26 June 2025 – From this Saturday, vintage tram line 42, operated by Prague City Tourism in partnership with Prague Public Transit Company, is increasing its service for the next two months, cutting its current 40-minute intervals to 30 minutes. That means five extra circuits of the city every day, just in time to meet growing demand. “Line 42 is a charming and eco-friendly way for visitors to enjoy a fresh perspective on Prague without getting caught up in traffic jams,” says Jiří Pospíšil, Prague’s deputy mayor responsible for culture and tourism. “Over the four years since it launched, this tram service has become a popular tourist attraction among visitors to the capital.” Line 42 has become a favourite not only with tourists, but also with fans of historic vehicles, as several different models take turns along the route, from cars dating back to the Austro-Hungarian era to retro trams from the 1970s. So far this year alone, Line 42 has clocked up nearly 30,000 kilometres. “Travelling through Prague on one of our historic trams has proved a hit with both international and domestic tourists,” says František Cipro, František Cipro, chair of Prague City Tourism’s board of directors. “Passengers especially appreciate the route we have devised, which takes in not just Prague’s best-known sights, but also hidden historical gems. To date, nearly 26,000 locals and visitors have ridden on the line.” With a valid ticket, passengers can hop off at any stop, visit a landmark, and hop back on, perhaps finding themselves in a vintage tram from a different era. It’s the perfect way to sample multiple historic tram cars in a single day. The ticket also grants access to the retro K bus route, which runs through Strahov and parts of Prague 6, offering an extra dose of nostalgia. Tickets for line 42 can be purchased online at prague.eu, at any Prague City Tourism information centre, directly from the conductor onboard, or at Prague Public Transit Company info points. Travel is free for holders of the Prague Visitor Pass. Lítačka cardholders enjoy a discounted fare, and combination tickets are available for tram travel and admission to Prague’s historic towers. During the summer, the first vintage tram departs daily at 9.30 a.m. More details about tram line 42 can be found at prague.eu.
