Prague City Tourism is the official certified destination management organisation of the City of Prague, of which it is a 100% joint-stock subsidiary. The company envisions tourism as one of the pillars of sustainable development of the city with respect to the cultural heritage and quality of life of the local community. It is the largest operator of attractions in Prague and the second largest manager of historical monuments in the Czech Republic. It provides comprehensive tourism services for domestic and foreign visitors to Prague and is also a certifying authority for licensed guides. In 2023, Prague City Tourism served over 1.1 million tourists at its information centres and over 1.8 million visitors to the Prague towers managed by the company. Prague City Tourism is governed by the Inbound Tourism Strategy of the City of Prague 2024-2027 titled “With Respect for Prague”. The purpose of the Strategy is to ensure a balance between the economic benefits of tourism and the strategic interests of the city, these being environmental, cultural, social and economic sustainability, improving the quality of life of Prague’s citizens, ensuring their safety, and protecting and developing their culture and historical heritage. In other words: maximising the positive aspects of tourism and minimising the associated negative ones. The strategy is implemented through 29 projects in the implementation plan. The company’s activities are defined by two main contracts with its shareholder, the City of Prague: a contract on the performance of public benefit activities and a contract for the usufructuary lease of the Old Town Hall Tower, the Petřín Tower, the Mirror Maze, the Old Town Bridge Tower, the Powder Gate Tower, the Lesser Town Bridge Tower, the St. Nicholas and the New Mill Water Tower. Prague City Tourism also operates commercial activities, in particular the official Prague Visitor Pass, the Clementinum tour and the vintage tram No. 42, and it designs and develops sophisticated souvenirs.
