31 March 2025, Prague – Prague City Tourism is prepared for the new tourist season and the arrival of domestic and foreign visitors. With the arrival of warm weather, it is extending the opening hours of Prague's towers, preparing for the celebrations of the end of the Second World War and providing new types of walks for the public.

“The first day of April marks the beginning of the new tourist season in Prague and Prague is well prepared for both domestic and foreign travellers. As in previous years, we will be marketing to more well-to-do tourists with a deeper interest in the city. I believe that the recent specific steps to cultivate tourism in the metropolis, such as the prevention of unfair tourism practices in the heritage zone, will be appreciated by both Prague residents and visitors,” says JUDr. Jiří Pospíšil, Deputy Mayor of Prague for Culture and Tourism.

Over the last three years, tourism in Prague has been transformed. It is mainly frequented by more well-to-do travellers, thanks to whom spending in Prague is increasing. Similarly, Prague is also popular with Czech domestic guests, who already form a stable fifth of all incoming visitors. The number of tourists from Asia is also increasing year-on-year, thanks to new direct air routes.

“We are ready for the tourist season. We expect that this year a similar number of visitors will visit the monuments we manage as in the previous year, when we welcomed more than 1.8 million domestic and foreign visitors to Prague’s towers,” says František Cipro, Chair of the Board of Directors of Prague City Tourism, adding: “This year we are also planning minor repairs and revitalization of the monuments we manage; for example, we will repair the outer part of the entrance portal and the staircase at the St Nicholas Bell Tower, and we will also initiate project documentation for the general repairs to the Powder Tower this year.”

Newly opened spaces and themed walks

Prague City Tourism will also open up new premises this year. A new “wallpaper” room, which the company has restored, will open at St Nicholas City Bell Tower. It originally served as the apartment of the assistant tower attendant and provides a unique view of this type of housing, which has not been preserved in a similar form anywhere else in Bohemia. The wallpaper room has never been open to the public before, which makes it a jewel worthy of attention.

The Pragensia Viva guide service has also prepared new products for this season. Those with limited mobility can look forward to special walks around Prague, new themed walks to the interior of the Jewish Town are in preparation, together with a special walk focused on the Prague gastronomic scene. Similarly, seasonal walks continue, dedicated in springtime to the hidden treasures of the goddess Vesna.

“Our experienced guides will take you to places that often escape attention and will reveal their secrets to you during this spring cycle of walks. Over Easter, you can take to the Stations of the Cross with them on the way to Petřín. It is on Petřín Hill that Prague can boast of one of nature’s riches. These are rare almond trees,” says Pragensia Viva Director Sara Beninato.

Last but not least, the company is preparing for the celebrations of the end of the Second World War and the Prague Uprising with a series of lectures and themed walks.
