2 April 2026, Prague – With the new season under way, historic tram line 42 is increasing its service. More than 72,000 passengers travelled on the line last year alone. Since the end of March, trams have been running every 30 minutes, with the number of daily services increased to 17. Additional trailer carriages also boost capacity. Passing many of Prague’s best-known landmarks, the line offers a more sustainable way to explore the city. “Following exceptional interest in historic tram line 42, which Prague City Tourism operates in conjunction with DPP, the city’s public transport company, we are increasing services this year. More than 72,000 people used the line last year, confirming growing demand for a calmer, sustainable way to experience the city. It offers a more environmentally considerate option for travellers and helps to ease pressure on the historic centre,” says Tomáš Slabihoudek, councillor for culture and tourism. He confirms that the revised intervals and increased number of services will apply throughout the season until 31 December 2026. Vintage trams are a distinctive way to discover Prague with respect, while enjoying the authentic period atmosphere. “Line 42 is a fine example of how slow tourism can be used to discover the city, as passengers can hop on and off any time with a 24-hour ticket,” says František Cipro, Prague City Tourism’s board chairman, adding that “the route includes a number of Prague towers that visitors from the Czech Republic and abroad can explore. We at Prague City Tourism especially want to encourage Czech visitors to discover beautiful views of Prague, and from April we are offering up to 50% off admission to these heritage sites under our management with a valid vintage tram ticket.” The discount has increased from the original 20% and can be used for admission to one of the towers within the 24-hour validity of the tram ticket. The increased service also takes account of the ongoing reconstruction of the tram line between Chotkovy sady and Brusnice, which will continue until 17 July 2026. During this period, line 42 will run via Prašný most – Hradčanská – Chotkovy sady – Malostranská. In addition to line 42, passengers can also ride vintage trams on line 41, which connects the DPP Public Transport Museum in Střešovice with the National Technical Museum and Prague Planetarium, or take the retro bus line K. Both routes resumed operation after the winter break on 28 March and run every weekend and on public holidays between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. at 90-minute intervals,” says Petr Malík, Head of Vintage Vehicles at the Prague Public Transport Company (DPP). Historic tram line 42 is a tourist line operated using period vehicles by Prague City Tourism in cooperation with the Prague Public Transport Company. Passengers can travel in vintage vehicles ranging from the oldest from the Austro-Hungarian period to models from the 1970s. In 2025, these trams covered more than 67,000 kilometres and operated almost 4,900 services. The circular route connects Prague’s most important landmarks and offers an authentic experience of travelling in a historic vehicle on a hop-on hop-off basis.
