Prague, 30 March – The Easter holidays traditionally mark the start of the tourist season, drawing both domestic and international visitors to the capital. Prague City Tourism estimates that, in line with last year, around 250,000 travellers will arrive over Easter week. The main attraction remains the Easter markets, alongside the city’s religious landmarks and its distinctive festive atmosphere.

“Easter symbolically opens the tourist season, and we’re ready. In recent months, teams across tourism operations have taken part in a series of training sessions covering not only customer service, but also areas such as safety,” says František Cipro, chairman of the Prague City Tourism board.

High visitor numbers are also reflected in STR data monitoring the hotel sector, with occupancy rates consistently around 80%. Prague’s key sights follow a similar pattern.

“Interest in the heritage sites we manage increases during Easter week, with visitor numbers reaching around one and a half times the weekly average,” adds Adéla Dobrovolná, director of site operations at Prague City Tourism. This claim is backed by last year’s figures from the Old Town Hall, where visitor numbers during Easter were 45% higher than in an average week.

Newly tracked Mastercard data, gathered through cooperation with the credit card company, further underlines Easter’s importance for tourism. It shows rising demand for flights to Prague. Compared with 2025, interest has grown most among travellers from South Korea and China, while within Europe demand is strongest from countries with strong religious traditions, including Italy and Spain.

Easter also fuels pilgrimage tourism more broadly. Prague City Tourism has recently launched a dedicated platform, Spiritual Prague, presenting Prague as a city of spiritual stories, living traditions and places with a distinctive atmosphere, while also promoting the concept of slow tourism.
